The White Wedding Cake
When it comes to wedding cakes these days, pretty much anything goes, in terms of color, style, and decorations. There is something to be said, however, for the restrained elegance of a classic white wedding cake. From contemporary to ornate, these are some design ideas for the perfect white cake to suit any wedding.
White does not have to mean boring or plain. In fact, there are many ways to make a white wedding cake special and unique. The place to begin is by deciding on the general style of cake you wish to feature, modern, traditional, or eclectic. From there, the next consideration is the shape of the confection, and the arrangement of the tiers. Square layers tend to look more modern and sleek, whereas round is more traditional. That is not to say, however, that you cannot come up with a creative modern design using round tiers or an updated classic wedding cake in a square shape.
For a sleek contemporary white cake, stack square tiers, either three or five layers high (always work in odd numbers). Cover with a perfectly smooth fondant icing. With this base in place, you can begin to play with different decorating options. A five tier cake could be decorated with white on white vertical stripes to enhance its height and linear form. Think of a 1930s streamline deco moderne skyscraper for inspiration. Top it with a crystal monogram initial for a touch of cool glamor.
Square cakes can be used as a base for a tower of gift wedding cake design. This is a fun way to add a touch of whimsy into a cake that is very suitable for a traditional wedding reception. White on white frosting ribbons, bows, and decorations can be created using gumpaste, fondant, and texture over a buttercream icing. Let the top of the cake be decorated with a large frosting bow. If you like, ask your baker to use a pearlized addition to the frosting to add shimmer and contrast between the "boxes" and the "ribbons". It is a subtle but gorgeous effect which looks fantastic when the bride is wearing pearl bridal jewelry.
Flowers are always lovely on wedding cakes, and they are a fantastic addition to an all white cake. For the height of elegance, a white fondant cake can be adorned with handmade gum paste orchids. The exotic blossoms can cascade down one side of the tiers. Another beautiful idea is to cover the top layer of a round white wedding cake with an abundance of fresh white flowers. Roses and hydrangea work very well, as their round shape will easily cover the entire top tier when used in a group. Fresh flowers are not only very pretty, but less costly than gum paste blossoms.
Finally, there is the very traditional white wedding cake decorated with a profusion of white frosting swags, scrolls, bows, and pearls. This is a magnificent option for a very formal and grand wedding reception. The "pearl" accents on the cake will complement the bride's pearl bridal jewelry, and architectural details like swags and scrolls are marvelous in an ornately decorated ballroom. More On Wedding Invitations
Invitations inform your guests of the date, time, place and hosts of your occasion.
They also give your guests the first impression as to the style of your event.
Wording on all invitations is interchangeable or you can write your own.
Create your own look by choosing any ink color, lettering style or enhancement, such as bows or wraps.
We recommend you order 25 more invitations than the number required for your mailing list. This allows for addressing errors and last minute guests. Ordering 25 more at a later date is considered a new order and is more expensive.
Personalize Your Invitation; We have programmed the choice selections through out this site to match the samples that are pictured. You should however change any of these settings to suit your wedding plans. Just choose the ink and lettering you like best, select a verse or write your own verse and view a proof. We encourage you to make changes to the wording, lettering and ink color and proof again until you are fully satisfied.
Decorate Your Invitation; There are many ways to make your invitation unique. When ordering your invitation, a message will be displayed if one of our beautiful translucent wraps that let your guests unwrap the news of your event or elegant self-adhesive bows is available.
Lined Envelopes are an inexpensive way to enhance the elegance of your invitation. Most invitations come with two envelopes. The outer envelope that is addressed to your guests' homes and the inner "ungummed" envelope that is addressed with your guests' names and fits inside the larger outer envelope. Add a lined inner envelope that matches your invitation and ink color. This is another way to add to a customized look to your invitation.
Printed Return Address on the back of the outer envelope will help assure the return of any invitation that may have addressing errors for you to re-mail. All lettering styles and ink colors are available to match your invitations.
Reception Cards indicate the time and place of your reception. You include it only in the invitations of the guests whom you wish to attend your reception. Envelopes are not required.
Response Sets make it convenient for your guest to reply and for you to plan properly. They always include a line for the guest to write in their names, a line for the number of persons attending and a date asking for your guests to reply by. If you are offering your guests a menu choice, list them here. An envelope printed with your name and address is included. Response sets are a small expense in knowing how many meals for your caterer to prepare and ultimately can save you money on your reception costs.
Informals are a folded card printed with the name of the Bride and Groom, the Bride only or the new couples monogram. You can use these cards to write a personal note of thanks or for brief social notes. Order an ample supply to have them available anytime you need to write a note.
Save The Date Cards; In this modern world it is more and more important to give your family and friends as much notice as possible of your upcoming happy occasion. This is especially true for out-of-towners. Try to send these cards at least three to four months before the wedding. Any informal shown on this site may be used as a Save The Date Card. To order just change the suffix letter after the item number from an “F” to a “Y”.
Return Address, Your return address printed on the back of your envelope assures that your note was properly delivered or will return any addressing errors to you for re-mailing.
